Tank-less Water Heaters

Tube style skylights are quickly
becoming a standard in home
across the country and for good
reason. We all have dark spots
in our homes that need a little
lighting and we all like saving
money. My particular proverbial
pebble in my shoe was a bath-
room that had no window and
hence minimal natural light
access. It wasn’t a big deal until
I noticed that the light bulbs were
on overdrive working constantly
through out the day and night.
I realized the waste in energy
and figured it was time to find a
better, cheaper way to light this
area.

Enter The Tube Skylight.

There are a myriad of choices out there for letting natural light enter
your home. Choices vary from a small square to massive rectangular
glass skylights that, as you can imagine, can be very expensive, time
consuming to install and may need major deconstruction to install.
This is where makers like Solatube, Sunpipe and ODL make the tube
skylight second to none when it comes to cost benefit ratio. Ranging
from 9” to 14” in diameter, they can easily fit between rafters making
the installation complete in a couple of hours. Costs for a typical tube
package range from $150 to $400 each and can be installed by a
handy homeowner with appropriate tools and minimal effort.

As a professional handyman, I found the installation process simple
and straight forward. I installed one in the bathroom with no window
and was shocked at the amount of natural lighting that came through.
I caught myself, on several occasions, walking into the bathroom
solely to turn the “light” off. The “a-ha” moment was that the light
switch was in the off position, making me feel a little deceived by the
tube skylight. These skylights are so great that I also installed one in
the kitchen, hallway and my walk-in closet.

The Savings

Well, as far as the savings in my particular home, I noticed roughly a
10% reduction in my energy bill because there was no need to turn on
the lights in these rooms anymore. Forget about the savings in
energy for a moment. I noticed a happier sentiment in my home. As I
walk in, I notice the house a lot brighter and I feel happier than when I
used to enter a darker home. And to me, happiness is priceless.
